, established in 2009. It consists of four distinctive centres across the city, including Birmingham Conservatoire; Birmingham School of Acting; the School of English; and Birmingham School of Media.

Birmingham Conservatoire

Birmingham Conservatoire, based in the city centre, is the school for the performance of music that educates and trains aspiring musicians to professional standards in solo performance, composition, chamber music, orchestral playing and jazz. The school houses the 520-seat Adrian Boult Hall

, Recital Hall, six recording studios and a music library. There are almost 600 musicians that study on undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes. Their Junior Department provides tuition to over 200 young musicians aged 3 to 18 in classical music, chamber music, North Indian music and jazz. Research at the Conservatoire is focused on the study of music in performance, and have a centre for research into Composition and Performance Using Technology.

Birmingham School of Acting

Birmingham School of Acting, founded in 1936, offers courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level; and part-time and summer school courses; for adults, young people and children. The school is based at the purpose built facilities within the City Centre campus at Millennium Point which include 11 studios with sprung floors, acoustic panelling and air displacement systems. The courses are professionally accredited by the National Council for Drama Training and has partnerships with the Royal Shakespeare Company

. Alongside its undergraduate programmes in Acting and Physical Theatre, the school offers specialist postgraduate programmes in Professional Voice Practice and Acting the British Tradition.

Birmingham School of Media

Birmingham School of Media, located primarily at City North campus, is a Skillset Media Academy offering courses in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to professional and short courses. Courses are approved by the Broadcast Journalism Training Council and the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. The school has partnership with AVID, the industry standard post-production suites. Research within the school has been recognised for its excellence as part of the university's submission to the British Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), and in the funding provided by research councils for its innovative work.

School of English

School of English, home to the National Academy of Writing, is located on the City North campus. Its undergraduate English programmes specialise across Literature, Language Studies, Drama and Creative Writing; and joint honours programmes in English and Psychology, and English and Media. Established MA programmes in Literary Studies and in English Linguistics (the latter by Distance Learning). The diploma course of the National Academy of Writing, develops students' techniques and explore their talents as novelists, poets, playwrights, screenwriters, non-fiction writers and journalism.
