Fabio had been more than serviceable in his first 4 games but due to a few defensive errors in the first two of those had attracted unjust derision from some sections of support. In his fifth game he produced as good a defensive effort as you will see from a full back in the A-League.
On Round 8, Brazilian defender Fabio found Thompson on the left and the striker did what he does best, set off on a scurrying run to goal that was ended only by a collision with Gold Coast's Dutch midfielder Paul Beekmans.
