Extended Opportunity Programs and Services

Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) is a program of the State of California
and Community College districts to recruit and assist college students who show academic and financial need, considered educationally disadvantaged and/or academically underprepared. Created in January 1969 in a bill introduced by Senator Al Alquist
, its purpose is to encourage enrollment, retention and transfer of students disadvantaged by various factors, such as language, social, economic and education. EOPS provides enrollment assistance, educational planning, tutoring/educational services, and limited financial assistance when available. Eligibility is limited to California residents who demonstrate eligibility for receiving the Board of Governors Grant and have an academic need.
EOPS eligible students, who are single head of household TANF/AFDC recipients, may also be eligible to participate in the Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) Program.
