On Monday 16 August 2010, Exeter Airport was forced to close due to technical problems with the airport's fire appliances. Civil Aviation regulations state that for an airport to operate it must have suitable fire cover. The number of appliances required depend on the size of the airport, the type of aircraft and amount of passengers using the airport.
