Content

The song's narrator has separated from a former lover, who has become "the sweetheart of the rodeo". The narrator is left alone to take care of his daughter, and they're moving around in a one-horse trailer and a mobile home. As time flies, he starts to know that "everything that glitters is not gold".

Music video

Two music videos have been released for the song:

The first, which was actually a live performance, was issued in 1986 as the promotional clip for the single.

In 1991, a conceptual video, which was directed by Neil Abramson, was released, and was one of three videos filmed specially for Seals' video compilation, A Portrait.
