European Delirium Association

The European Delirium Association was founded in 2005 in order to promote research, education and clinical practice in delirium
. It serves as a forum to bring together interested researchers, practitioners and policy makers.
In 2006, the inaugural meeting brought together 50 delegates from the disciplines central to delirium including doctors, nurses, and psychologists working in geriatrics, psychiatry, palliative medicine, paediatrics, and neurology. The association has a broad remit, covering research, clinical practice, and promotion of better care through campaigning at local, national, and international levels. The association operates through an annual meeting, a website, and the newsletter "Annals of Delirium". The annual scientific congress addresses a wide spectrum of delirium issues including the latest developments in pathophysiology, phenomenology, treatment (including service models), and delirium advocacy.

Issue 5, July 2011 includes review of delirium in the ICU and summaries of relevant presentations from the American Association for Geriatric Society, volume 5 also has a contribution from a director of ICUsteps a UK charity for ICU survivors. Peter Gibb describes his experience to show how just how pervasive and persuasive delirium can be. Jouko Laurila has contributed a commentary on a recently published study the subject of which is dear to his heart. We have an interesting article on Delirium Knowledge Transfer which sounds like a solution to a fundamental problem to us all.
