. He played for the Iraq Under-19s in 2005 but failed to make it into final squad for the 2006 AFC Youth Championship in India.

The 22-year-old defender made his international debut as recently as 31 May, in a friendly against Qatar, when he was brought on as a second half substitute. Iraq lost the game by a solitary goal, but Yassin earned a thumbs-up from his Serbian coach for a solid performance at the back.

Despite this, Isam remains a largely unfamiliar figure, even in Asian circles. He has played for five different clubs, but none are among the domestic big boys and he has no experience of continental competition at club level. In the international arena, he featured in Iraq's qualifying campaign for the 2006 AFC Youth Championship but was left out of the team that played in the finals in India.

However, the forthcoming FIFA Confederations Cup provides him with the perfect chance to prove himself on the international stage and repay his coach's faith.
