Eric Flagg former fashion industry executive, was the President of Edith Flagg, Inc. Edith Flagg, Inc. was a multi-million dollar dress label of the 1950-s through 1990’s. Flagg retired early his son, Michael, took over so he could dedicate his time to philanthropy. Flagg was a holocaust survivor who fled Nazi Germany in 1938 to Holland. He joined the Dutch Resistance where he met his wife Edith Flagg

Philanthropy

In 1963, Flagg became treasurer of the California Fashion Creators. In 1968, 1969 and 1974, he was the president of the California Fashion Creators.

Flagg was elected to be on the advisory board of Manufacturers Bank in 1971.

Edith and Eric Flagg, along with Carol Burnett were the 1971 recipients of the “Brotherhood Award” by the National Conference of Christians and Jews.

Flagg was elected to the board of directors of the City of Hope in 1972. He remained on the board for more than 20 years. He was also a vice president of the institution. Flagg was also Chairman for the Convention Cabinet of the City of Hope, Chairman of the Auxiliary Committee for the City of Hope and Chairman for the Investment Committee in 1987 for the City of Hope. Flagg was the 1987 chairman of the Committee on Ideology as well. His son Michael was also a treasurer for the City of Hope Merchants Club and was a founding member of The Young Merchants of the City of Hope.

Flagg was a member of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Jewish Committee.

In 1980, Flagg and his wife were honored by the United Jewish Welfare Fund.

In March 1981, the Flaggs were honored with the “Morse Award” by the United Jewish Welfare Fund’s Apparel Division. In October 1982, the couple was honored by Magen David Adom (Israel’s Official Red Cross Service).

Flagg was the chairman of the Apparel Division of The United Jewish Fund in 1979 and 1980, and was a member of that division’s cabinet for over 10 years. He was a member of the Major gifts Committee of the UJF as well. Flagg was Chairman of the Jewish Federation Council Finance Committee in 1985 as well as the Jewish Federation COuncil Executive Committee. Edith and Eric Flagg were honored in July 1985 by the United Jewish Fund.

Eric Flagg and Michael Flagg were members of the Tribute Committee of the Magen David Adom (Israel’s Official Red Cross Service). In 1983, Flagg was elected to be a Member of Board of Directors of the American Red Magen for Israel (ARMDI) Pacific Southwest Region

In 1986 Flagg was elected as the chair of the Finance Committee for the United Jewish Fund . In 1988 Flagg became a member of the Board of Directors for the Jewish Federation Council of Greater Los Angeles (“The Jewish Federation”)

In 1991 Eric Flagg was named to the Gallery of Achievement by the City of Hope.

The Flagg family has donated millions of dollars and hours of times to Jewish and non-Jewish charities. Edith and Eric Flagg, as well as their son and daughter-in-law Cindy, have permanent plaques at the Jewish Federation Building on Wilshire Blvd. Edith and her husband have permanent plaques at the City of Hope as well. Cindy is the daughter of late philanthropist and Jewish leader, Herman Platt. She is also the granddaughter of Platt Music Company founder, Ben Platt.
Eric Flagg and his family have also been involved with Tel-Aviv University, The Guardians for the Jewish Home for the Aging and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, both where his son Michael serves on executive boards.
His daughter-in-law is a United Hostess of Cedars-Sinai.
