For a time the twins believed that John Black

 was actually Roman Brady and therefore their father. Black raised them during their mother's five-year disappearance. Marlena eventually returned, as did the real Roman.

 in December 1992. Eric returned to Salem in April 1994 and would begin relationships with Nicole Walker and Greta Von Amberg, while supporting his sisters Sami, Carrie and Belle. Eric would then get fed up with the drama in Salem and leave town on July 31, 2000. Eric returned in 2001 but left again in 2002. Between 1992 and 1994, it had been implied by Sami that Eric avoided visiting his family because of their various dysfunctions.

Eric has had only two serious love interests on the show: Nicole Walker

Eric almost always disagreed with Sami and her schemes and more often that not sided with others against her, although he often defended her to those outside the Brady family.

In June 2008, it was mentioned on the show by Sami that Eric had been in a car accident while living in Colorado, although he never appeared onscreen. Despite the fact that he was not seriously hurt, his mother, Marlena, left Salem to check on him.
