. Originally founded as Lofton, Georgia the name was changed to Ephesus sometime in the mid 1960s. The population was 388 at the 2000 census.

There were 154 households out of which 35.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.3% were married couples
living together, 6.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.3% were non-families. 26.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.01.
In the town the population was spread out with 25.3% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 30.9% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.5% who were 65 years of age or older.
