 Band based in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. It is made up of two song writing brothers (Ryan & Aaron Crane), a cousin (Todd MacLean), an old friend (Josh Byrne) and a spring chicken (Andrew Murray). They were originally known as Smothered in Hugs.

 song, Smothered In Hugs formed in Charlottetown, P.E.I. in 2005; The band’s debut LP The Healing Power Of Injury was released nationally in February of 2009 and welcomed by rave reviews. Critics described the record as being bright, cleverly articulated, gorgeously melodic, urgently paced, unpredictable, and wholly memorable.

On January 15, 2010 in front of a packed bar crowd, Smothered in Hugs did something wholly unexpected. They announced that they were changing their name to English Words. To go along with the name change the band personally handed out copies of their new 4 song EP Customer Appreciation to everyone who was in attendance.

Healing Power of Injury won the 2010 Music PEI Award for Rock Recording of the Year.
Healing Power of Injury was nominated for the 2010 East Coast Music Award for Rock Recording of the Year.

The group has performed and toured with various other East Coast artists including Collagen Rock Records label mates Two Hours Traffic, electro-rockers Holy Fuck and In Flight Safety to name only a few. English Words were invited by Joel Plaskett to perform as a part of the annual Canada Day
