On June 6, 2008, Emmaville was the scene of widespread damage, along with nearby Park Rapids, Minnesota, when a storm system containing at least one tornado swept through the area, uprooting trees and damaging property. One injury was reported.
In 2010, Emmaville was officially put up for sale and purchased by Mike and Melinda Spry. The Sprys are renovating the store and cafe and plan to reopen in the spring of 2011.
