Professional development series

Part of the independent study program is the professional development series of courses that are designed for certification of emergency managers. The courses in this program include IS-139 (Exercise Design), IS-230 (Principles of Emergency Management), IS-235 (Emergency Planning), IS-240 (Leadership & Influence), IS-241 (Decision Making and Problem Solving), IS-242 (Effective Communication), and IS-244 (Developing and Managing Volunteers).

History

The former Civil Defense Staff College became the Emegency Management Institute on transfer to the Federal Emergency Management Agency in 1979. EMI has been at the old Saint Joseph College campus since that time, sharing the campus with the United States Fire Administration
