Elizabeth Garrett is Provost
and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Frances R. and John J. Duggan Professor of Law, Political Science and Public Policy at the University of Southern California
. Garrett is also co-Director of the USC-Caltech Center for the Study of Law and Politics and serves on the board of the Initiative and Referendum Institute at USC.
On August 9, 2010, it was announced that Garrett would serve as USC's interim Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. Following a search of over 225 potential candidates by executive search
firm Isaacson, Miller; Garrett was unanimously recommended to serve as the successor to C. L. Max Nikias as USC's Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. She was officially appointed to this position on October 28, 2010.

. Garrett withdrew her nomination on May 29th, 2009, citing "aspects of my personal family situation."
