, although acting 100 years later. El Coyote's real name is César de Echagüe and he is a rich man living at a ranch called San Antonio outside Los Angeles. He first appeared in the novel El Coyote (1944) by José Mallorquí. Between 1944 and 1953 El Coyote appeared in 192 pulp

-like novels. In 1998 the movie La Vuelta de El Coyote (The Return of El Coyote) was made with José Coronado playing El Coyote. In Mallorqui's novels one can trace that César was born around 1826 (the novels cover adventures from circa 1846 until circa 1876).

El Coyote had a comic book adaptation in Spain, by Jose Mallorquí and Francisco Batet, in the comic magazine Novelas del Oeste (Western Novels) during the 1940's and 50's.
