The town was proclaimed on 29 October 1912.

The town is surrounded by a farming community, situated between Heilbron and Kroonstad on the R34 in the Riemland district.

Edenville is known for the Sernick Bonsmara cattle breeder farm as well as the farming of extensive amounts of maize and sunflowers amongst others.

Most of the residential roads are still dirt roads.

The local garage (Edenville Motors) has a collection of old vintage cars.

The NG church is a popular sandstone landmark in Kerk Street.

The main street is Haefele street named after one of the first residents.

The town is basically self maintained and the local churches and other individual parties contribute quite extensively to the well being of the less privileged residents.

The township of Edenville is called Nqwathe.

Other than Heilbron and Kroonstad, alternative access to the town can be obtained from Lindley and Petrus Steyn as well.

Popular farm landmarks are Alpha, Liebenbergsstroom, Blesbokfontein etc.
