preached here. In his writings, from March 10, 1804, Bishop Asbury stated that 'I know why I came to Edenton; that I might feel for the people, and make an appointment of a preacher for them: but we must get a house of worship here of our own'. In 1808, EUMC was officially founded.

As the church grew, its location changed from Church and Oakum Streets in 1809, to Eden Street in 1857, to Broad Street in 1895, and finally, to Virginia Road in 1979. The Education Building was built in 1979, and the Sanctuary was completed in 1983.

EUMC completed construction of a new section of the building in 2006, which more than doubled the size of the existing facilities. The new Family Life Center, ultra-modern commercial kitchen, youth room, day care center and classrooms serve as a central megaplex for Christian discipleship in Chowan County. At Homecoming in October 2006, EUMC re-dedicated its existing facility and consecrated the new facility with the help of past and present District Superintendents.
