, representing the 17th District since 1984. He was defeated by a margin of 222 votes in his attempt to be re-elected on November 8, 2011.

State Senate

Houck serves on the Finance, Transportation, Rules, General Laws and Technology committees. As the third ranking member in the State Senate, he is Chairman of the Senate Education and Health Committee, of the Joint Commission on Health Care and of the Health and Human Resources Subcommittee. He is also the Chairman of the Freedom of Information Advisory Council.

For five years, Houck has served on the Budget Committee of Conference. This committee meets with its counterparts from the House of Delegates to reconcile differences between the House and Senate budgets and recommend a final budget bill to be sent to each House for approval.
