He introduced himself and impressed both Susan and Serena (Stingray's girlfriend) with his admission that he had just been released from juvenile detention and proposed to make a fresh start. . However, when Stingray returned home, he was less pleased to see his brother, immediately punching him. Dylan was understanding, claiming that he had been violent towards his brother in the past. Susan admonished Stingray and convinced him to give Dylan another chance.

Dylan then proceeded to lie to Susan with the intention that she would allow him to stay with her. He said he was staying with his friend but then hid in a bush in the park while Susan was taking her morning walk and emerged as she passed. Susan assumed Dylan was sleeping rough and invited him to stay at Number 28. Susan also went to great lengths to get Dylan a place at Erinsborough High. However, on his first day he took his car - which he had bought with money given to him by his father - and convinced Serena and Stingray to take the morning off school. Stingray later admitted to Susan what they had done.

Soon after Dylan observed a local dog-catcher and released all the dogs from his van. He tried this a second time but was prevented by Stingray. However, when the dog-catcher caught Susan's dog Audrey, Dylan and Stingray broke into the pound and released all the dogs. They narrowly escaped being caught, and when Susan found out she warned them they were on their "final chance", though she expressed gratitude for returning Audrey.

. This soon became too much and Dylan moved back in with Susan. However, after a conversation with Steph Scully, Janelle resolved to be more forgiving and not to give up on her children.

Friendship with Paul Robinson

Dylan began to admire Paul Robinson when he started teaching a business class at Erinsborough High. Paul took an interest in Dylan and gave him a job evicting squatters from houses owned by Paul. Dylan soon became Paul's "right hand man".

Now more prosperous, Dylan was dismissive of his mother's attempt to make amends by buying bike for him and his brother. He claimed that it would take more to repair their relationship and that he did not need her money as he was making his own. Once more, Janelle asked Dylan and Stingray to move into Number 26. This time, Stingray agreed, but this time it was Dylan who refused. However, he soon changed his mind and reluctantly moved into Number 26. They soon grew closer and were joined by their sisters, Janae and Bree.

While spying on Izzy Hoyland for Paul, Dylan became distracted by Sky Mangel. Sky was going through a rough patch with boyfriend Boyd Hoyland

. They shared a kiss, but Sky then left, upset. Dylan then realised he had forgotten to keep and eye out for Izzy.

Meanwhile, the Timmins had been having trouble from David Bishop

who looked down his nose at them. He disapproved of Stingray's relationship with his daughter Serena and had accidentally broken the boy's arm. When he spoke angrily with Bree in the street, Dylan warned him off and later proceeded to lose his temper and utterly destroy the interior of Number 24, the Bishop household. Dylan was apprehended by Paul who provided him with an alibi, much to the annoyance of David Bishop who immediately suspected Dylan.

When Dylan's old friend Roo appeared, trying to convince Dylan to help him with a robbery, Paul convinced him to set up his friend to be arrested by the police in an attempted robbery of the Scarlet Bar.

Soon afterwards, whilst trying to impress his cousin Toadie

at the Scarlett Bar, Dylan was embarrassed by Tony Reynard, a client of Toadie's. In revenge, Dylan stole Reynard's car and almost trashed in. However was taken as the owner by a thug and beaten up. Paul found Dylan and reassured him that he wouldn't always be a victim and that he had to decide whether he wanted to just be one of the pack or someone who took risks and succeeded in life.

Affirmacon and Paul's injury

Dylan saw his opportunity to spend more time with Sky after she broke up with Boyd. Boyd dumped Sky after discovering that, while he was in hospital having a brain tumour operated on, she had kissed Dylan. However, she maintained that she just wanted to be friends with Dylan.

When Sky and Dylan tried to save some animals that had been poisoned in the contaminated Lassiter's Lake, Dylan was poisoned himself, and later discovered from Karl Kennedy

that he was now more susceptible to cancer and other ailments. After some help from Paul Robinson, Sky and Dylan, and the other residents, managed to bring down Affirmacon, a corporation Paul was originally working with. Relationship with Sky

Though they had grown closer in trying to bring down Affirmacon, Sky still tried to keep Dylan at an arms length. Dylan held a surprise dinner party for Sky, but when this degenerated into a fight with Stingray, Sky was shocked by Dylan's more violent side. Though she tried to come with this it was worsened when Stingray let slip that it was Dylan who had trashed Number 24, where she lived. However, when she saw Dylan playing with Oscar Scully

A misunderstanding over Dylan's sexual expertise led Dylan to present Sky with a list of all the women he had slept with. This misjudged move led Sky to break up with Dylan. Dylan was asked by Sky to pose completely naked for her so she could present a life-drawing to her art class and was very reluctant, despite the fact he was known to brag about his love of being naked.

However, he was not pleased with the picture and claimed it made him look like "a little boy". He then made his appendage bigger, which annoyed Sky, and when asked to pose for another sketch, he was caught naked in the General Store by Harold, David and the entire Salvation Army

However, Roo resurfaced, kidnapping Stingray and threatening violence against him unless Dylan robbed a service station at gunpoint. Following the robbery Roo made an anonymous tip-off to the police. Paul agreed to help Dylan as they set off on the joy-flight, but warned him he might never be able to return, and that the police would be waiting to arrest him when the plane landed. Stingray, who did not go on the flight, had already been arrested.

However, a bomb had been planted on the plane and exploded over Bass Strait. Dylan and Sky, believing they would die, laughed as the plane went down.

Dylan was washed up the shore along with Connor O'Neil. Dylan believed Sky was dead and that, if he faked his own death Stingray could blame the robbery on him and escape prison. Connor, who was also in trouble with the police and believed he had lost his girlfriend (Serena Bishop), agreed that they should attempt to stage their own deaths by avoiding the search and rescue teams in an attempt to start a new life. The pair lived rough in the bush for some time, where Connor struggled greatly.

However, when Dylan found an old newspaper which reported that Sky had survived and Stingray - in an attempt to honour his brother's memory - had decided to take the blame for the robbery, the pair returned to Erinsborough to clear Stingray's name. They were surprised to discover that Number 26 was empty because everyone was at Dylan's memorial. With Connor deciding to carry on living rough, Dylan, surprised to see his father Kim had returned, presented himself during Janelle's speech. Janelle responded by hugging her son and then slapping him. He was then promptly arrested.

Prison

After a diasterous trial in which Stingray refused to blame Dylan, despite pleas from Dylan and Toadie, the brothers were sent to prison. Sky, still reeling from Dylan's actions following the crash, refused to visit initially but when she relented she was told by Dylan - who had been sentenced to a maximum of ten years - to move on.

Dylan had trouble easing Stingray into prison life which was exacerbated by the arrival of Roo in the same wing. However, help came in the form of Police Constable Stuart Parker

Split from Sky & relationship with Elle

Meanwhile, Sky became attracted to her art lecturer, JP Valasco, and when it emerged that they had slept with each other under the pretence that Sky was single, Dylan dumped her. In a fit of rage he destroyed the mural that she and Bree had adorned his car with when he was missing, presumed dead. He then left for Colac to collect his thoughts,

s but refused to let Dylan become involved in order to protect him. Discovered by the police, Kim fled following his second wedding with Janelle.

When the events surrounding Robert Robinson came to a head, Dylan took it upon himself to search for Paul, who Robert had trapped in a mine-shaft.

These events drew Dylan and Elle closer together, but this was jeopardised when Sky announced she was pregnant, but initially unsure whether Dylan or JP was the father. When it emerged that JP was infertile, Dylan was left as the only candidate. However, Dylan refused to let Sky speak to him, thinking she was just trying to win him back from Elle.

Sky decided to have an abortion, much to Dylan's relief, but did not go through with it. She decided to keep the baby, giving Dylan no choice in the matter. He resented this, feeling he was not ready to be a good father.

Dylan stood by Sky, joining her for tests at which it was suggested that the baby could have abnormalities. Dylan realised this was a result of his infection in Lassiter's lake. Fortunately the tests came back clear. He grew closer to Sky in this period, but Elle warned Dylan that Sky was just trying to get him back, but this led Dylan to realise he still loved Sky. Dylan, who had been scolded by Janelle for not being with Sky, told Elle that he was considering getting back with Sky as this would be was best for the baby. Elle became scared and, with encouragement from her father, lied to Dylan, telling him she had a serious illness. Dylan felt terrible and doted on Elle.

When Dylan returned to Erinsborough, from a short stint at a cookery camp, he presented Sky with a stuffed toy of Totoro, a character from one of the films of Miyazaki

Confusion over the father

A few days later, Sky - whose eating habits had been cause for concern - collapsed. Though she was fine, she shocked Dylan by telling him that tests carried out by Karl Kennedy showed he could not have been the baby's father, as it was too young to have been conceived during their relationship. He contemplated the situation but decided that he would forgive Sky if the child was put up for adoption. Brought to his senses by his grandmother Loris

, he agreed to forgive Sky, but was further shocked when she announced Stingray must be the father. This crushed Dylan he ended his engagement to Sky.

Dylan found Stingray, who was unaware of the situation, and invited him for a buck's night out in the city. He took Stingray to a tower overlooking a main road and angrily told him that the baby was his, Dylan then denounced Stingray as his brother and walked off. Back at Number 26, the rest of the Timmins' were panicking, believing Dylan would have done something terrible to Stingray, but were relieved when they found he had managed to maintain his temper.

In order to avoid Stingray at work, Dylan quit his job at the Scarlet Bar (where Stingray worked as a barman) and found a new career as a shareholder in Lassiter's Hotel. This sent him back into Elle's arms. Thinking that fatherhood could save Stingray from his drinking problem, Sky went to Lassiters Hotel to find him, but a mix-up occurred at reception and Sky found herself in the wrong hotel room and face-to-face with Dylan and Elle kissing each other.

The trauma of the moment overwhelmed Sky and she left Lassiter's crying, and was attacked by a stabbing pain in her stomach. She was taken back to hospital where Karl announced she has gone into premature labour. The baby, Kerry

He immediately decided that the child must be his and took her to a motel without telling anybody. Sky was distraught, until Dylan was tracked down by Elle. Elle reminded Dylan how harmful his action could be to the child, his family, Sky and himself. She took Kerry, stole Dylan's car and returned the child to the doorstep of Number 24. Dylan later admitted to having taken Kerry, but re-asserted his belief that the child was his. Sky, Dylan and Stingray decided to have a DNA test.

It was revealed that Karl have made an unavoidable mistake and that Dylan was Kerry's biological father. After Dylan proved that Kerry was his he decided to fight for full custody

Game playing with Elle

Dylan began dating Elle non-exclusively, acting dismissively of her, in revenge for her lie about her illness and to annoy Paul. Following Dylan's discovery of Paul's involvement in Elle's lies, Dylan was angry with Paul and effectively ended what remained of their once strong friendship. The birth of Kerry, claimed Dylan, showed him what a bad father Paul had been. Paul was further annoyed by the fact that the Timmins' had acquired a forty-nine percent shareholding in Lassiters, equalling his own. Much to his annoyance, Dylan sided with "Timmins Inc." over himself. Spurred on by Paul, Elle dumped Dylan after she realised he was taking advantage of her.

In the aftermath, Dylan and Sky shared a kiss but were surprised to find that neither of them felt that there was a "spark". They agreed that they were "mutually repulsed by one another" and resolved to remain friends.

Dylan then started to work for Elle's affections, much to Paul's disgust. In an attempt to win her back Dylan asked Elle what he could do to prove his devotion. Elle told him to turn up at the Lassiter's board meeting naked. Dylan rose to the challenge and won her heart back.

Kerry's illness and Stingray's death

Dylan started to deal with Sky and Stingray's relationship, though he was finding it difficult. He realised that Kerry would grow up spending more time with Stingray than himself and bristled at the idea. However, after a medical appointment Kerry was diagnosed with leukaemia and urgently needed a bone marrow transplant. After learning that his bone marrow would be unsuitable for Kerry due to contamination from being involved with Affirmacon, Dylan lost his temper once more and went to confront Paul, accusing him of causing Kerry's leukaemia. When Paul showed no sympathy, Dylan punched him to the ground.

Fortunately, most of the other member of Ramsey Street offered their bone marrow and Stingray's proved to be a perfect match for Kerry. Dylan was initially annoyed that it would be his brother, not himself, who would save Kerry but quickly realised his gratitude and because of this Dylan and Stingray formed a stronger bond. Dylan announced that, since someone would inevitable act as Kerry's stepfather, he was glad it would be his brother.

, Janelle's new boyfriend, warned the boys not to take the law into their own hands again, but praised them for doing the right thing and did not follow up any charges.

The operation itself, whilst problematic, proved ultimately successful and Kerry survived. However, days later, at Janelle's birthday party, Stingray suffered a fatal aneurysm.

Departure

Dylan was overwhelmed by grief following Stingray's death and his old anger issues resurfaced. He stormed into the hospital seeking retribution against the doctors who had operated on Stingray and had to be physically restrained by Harold Bishop.

Later that day, Dylan kidnapped Paul, blaming him for Stingray's death. He took him deep into the bush and eventually pushed him off the same cliff which Paul had been thrown off before. Dylan then down, realising that he had let Stingray down by sinking to Paul's level. Paul managed to hang on to the cliff and Dylan helped him up, before telling Paul that he was not saving Paul, but himself, and that Paul did not need to destroy him, as he was on a path of his own creation to self-destruction.

Following this, Dylan realised his rage was getting out of control and begged Steiger to arrest him, to prevent him from doing something more serious. Steiger said he could not - Janelle had already lost one son and could not bear to lose another.

Consequently, Dylan trashed the Scarlett Bar where he was discovered by Boyd. Here Kim, who had returned for the funeral, coaxed Dylan into attending. When Boyd appeared at the funeral, Dylan's temper got out of control again, but he was calmed down by Kim. Afterwards Dylan begged Steiger to arrest him but Steiger had other plans for Dylan's salvation.

Steiger was impressed by Kim's loyalty displayed by attending Scott's funeral despite warnings that he would be arrested. Steiger instructed Kim to take Dylan away from Erinsborough to regain his mind. Dylan was reluctant, claiming he was angry all the time, he couldn't laugh or cry or share stories about Stingray, but Kim convinced him that it would be better for all if he stepped away to regain his composure, so he could return and be a proper father to Kerry.

Shortly before leaving Dylan said his farewells, though only Bree realised what was happening and begged her brother to stay. Dylan promised to return when he got better. Dylan and Kim started to work on a tourist boat in Port Douglas
