 following their takeover of Rowntree's in 1988. They are becoming increasingly hard to find in most parts of the United Kingdom, with 90 million bars being produced each year. Amongst its advertising slogans, it has been referred to as "the chewy chocolate bar that you really have to get your teeth into."

In 2007 Drifter was discontinued by Nestlé before being reintroduced in May 2008, enjoying a similar act of nostalgia as Cadbury's Wispa

 bar. Nestlé are reported as saying "it was a mistake" to end circulation to begin with.

In June 2011 McDonald's
