Arms

The Arms were granted by the Lord Lion. It features the horseshoe, the bible and stars of the Royal Burgh of Dornoch in the County of Sutherland; the book and mitre trace back to the 6th century foundation of St Finnbarr and subsequent cathedral school; the Gaelic motto is "Le Ionracas ’s Dìchioll" (with integrity and industry).

Current publications in full color feature more blue in the arms than older single or two tone printings.

Houses

For both sporting and non-sporting competition purposes, as well as to facilitate the guidance system, students at Dornoch Academy are divided into two Houses: Mackay (Red) and Sutherland (Blue).
