The school is broken up into several colored teams, each having about 100-110 students. Teams are broken up by grade. The 7th grade teams are Aqua, Maroon, Teal, and Yellow. The 8th grade teams are Blue, Green, Purple, and Red.

Students at Dodd can also learn a world language. The language choices are Spanish, French, German, and Latin.

Dodd Middle School was recognized as a national blue ribbon school of excellence two years in a row.
