Information

The album was released in three different versions. Limited Edition A included a DVD with a documentary footage of the making of the song Endless. Both Limited Editions A and B included bonus track 13, while Regular Edition had only 12 tracks. All tracks were written and composed by vocalist Ichiro Yamaguchi except instrumental tracks RL and DocumentaRy which was composed by the entire band.

The capitalized "L" instead of an "r" in the album title is deliberate to show that the word "mental" can be found in the word "documentary". With 'DocumentaLy', the band hopes that they can convey even a little bit of the fact that they are normal people who love music, and not just musicians.

On September 24, four days before the release, all tracks were revealed for the first time to fans via an event titled MUSICA & Sakanaction presents Sakanaction 5th Album Preceding Explosion Listening Party at Liquidroom Ebisu. The event was also live broadcasted through Ustream

The lead song of the album is Endless, a song that took a total of 8 months to conceptualize, write, compose and arrange. The band went through several re-recordings to get the song right. A promotional music video for the song was created but not included in the DVD of the album. Instead, it was revealed on YouTube on the same day of the album's release date.
