The channel was initially known as Discovery Civilisation and was devoted to documentaries regarding history and civilizations, historic, ancient or present. On 1 November 2007, Discovery Civilisations was re-branded as Discovery Knowledge.
Discovery Knowledge +1 launched on Sky, Channel 551, on 30 June 2008.
