. Johnstone was a Queen of the South youth player before joining Celtic. He made his debut for the Scotland under 16 team away to Jersey on 24 August 2010. His first goal for the Scotland under 16 team came in his next game, when he scored the opener in the 3-0 win against Northern Ireland on 1 October 2010.
