The community was originally formed and developed by the Frye/Gross Partnership in 1980 and largely remained undeveloped until a trailblazer by the name of John Case built a small log cabin on lot 12 in 1995. Since that time the community has seen a small building boom. Although all lots are sold, there are currently only 13 lots developed.

In 2005, the Deerfield Property Owners Association was legally incorporated in the State of Maryland.

The association holds an annual meeting every year in October to discuss issues relevant to the association. All owners and/or interested parties are encouraged to attend.
