A Los Angeles-based piano teacher and songwriter, Holland was hired for Animal Logic almost immediately after a two-song demo tape was forwarded to Copeland, selected over hundreds of other singers who auditioned for the band. Holland is credited with writing nearly all the songs recorded by the group.

Since the demise of Animal Logic, Holland has released four solo albums and recorded and performed music for movies, television and commercials. In 1996, Deborah received her Master's Degree from California State University, Los Angeles

 where she was honored as the Outstanding Graduate Student in Commercial Music. Holland subsequently joined the faculty, where she teaches a variety of music-related courses as part of the commercial music program.

Holland also continues to tour and play live. In 2007 Holland announced she was joining a newly formed group called The Refugees, featuring Wendy Waldman and Cindy Bullens
