The racial and ethnic makeup of the population was 81.6% non-Hispanic white, 1.5% African American, 1.4% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander (the vast majority of whom were Guamanian or Chamorro), 9.9% from some other race, 2.2% reporting two or more races and 13.6% of the population was Hispanic or Latino or any race.

In the county the population was spread out with 24.70% under the age of 18, 9.20% from 18 to 24, 29.10% from 25 to 44, 23.20% from 45 to 64, and 13.80% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 95.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.50 males.
