At the start of the 2009–10 season, Wright fell out of favour with manager Roy Keane. He did, however, work his way back into the team at left back and on 31 October scored against Derby County at Portman Road to give Ipswich their first win of the season—the last team in the whole league to record their first win. However he was released from the club at the end of the season.
