David made his first-grade debut on 4 September 2009 playing for the Wests Tigers

 against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at Sydney Football Stadium, in the final round of the regular NRL season.

After earning the 2009 New South Wales Cup player of the year award, whilst playing for The Balmain Ryde Eastwood Tigers, Gower was rewarded with a 1 year contract with the 2010 NRL Premiership winning team the St. George Illawarra Dragons for the 2011 season. He played in five NRL matches for the Dragons in 2011, and his contract was extended at the end of the year.
