Danny Stannard was in the BSAP and CIO. He was involved in foiling an assassination attempt (possibly more than one) on Mugabe in 1980, for which he later got a medal. He remained a senior CIO officer under the Mugabe government. After retiring from the CIO in 1996 he became manager of the Zimbabwe cricket team for a while.
