Professional career

Known as "The Bronx Bomber", Santiago turned pro in 1997 and in 2007 took on WBO light heavyweight title holder Zsolt Erdei

 but was dropped in the 2nd and 8th round and lost via TKO in the 8th round.

He was one of the featured boxers on the 3rd season of the boxing reality TV series, The Contender, which premiered on September 4th, 2007 on ESPN. He received a second shot at a world title when he fought Antonio Tarver
