He anticipated some conclusions of the textual critics of a century later which then met with general acceptance, e.g. disproving the authenticity of the text relating to the "Three Witnesses" (I John 5. 7). His results were incorporated in The New Testament in Greek and English, 2 vols., 1729, to which L. Twells issued a reply defending the textus receptus.
