Village Event Information

Damiansville is entering its Sesquicentennial Celebration for 150 years. The main event will take place 23 and 24 July 2011 in the shaded part of the church grounds. Food, drinks, and entertainment will be on hand as well as a parade on Sunday. The event will preempt the Chamber of Commerce's annual softball tournament that is held every year on that weekend. In coordination with the Sesquicentennial there is a $20,000 drawing. The drawing will be held at the main event, but for people who purchased tickets early, there are early bird drawing events held the last Friday of each month leading up to the main event.

Other significant events that occur in the town are the Wurstmarkt, the church picnic, the Chamber of Commerce Softball tournament, and the shooting match.

The Wurstmarkt is a lunch/dinner that consists of classic German food (Pork sausage, roast beef, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, sauerkraut, etc.). Meat is also raffled and sold. Cold beer is served as well. The event takes place in the church gymnasium. This takes place on the last Sunday in March, unless that day is Easter.

The church picnic is known for the fried chicken and the world famous homemade noodles. Dining in the gym and getting carryouts are both options at the picnic where the food most definitely steals the show. Blow-up rides are available for the kids as well as carnival games. Draft beer wagons cap the night off which usually ends pretty late. The picnic is always the second Saturday in July.

The softball tournament is put on the by the Damiansville Chamber of Commerce. The event starts on Thursday evening and continues on through Sunday until a champion is crowned. Music is usually provided by a DJ on Saturday making that night the longest of them all. The tournament also consists of great food, mostly fried. Fresh beef is used to prepare burgers. Chicken used to be fried a few years ago just off the left field line in foul territory. "Heads up chicken friers" is a common phrase you'll hear from the world class announcers after foul balls are ripped down said line. The tournament is one of the last 'no fence' softball tournament around. This event takes place the 4th weekend in July.

The final event in the town is the shooting match. There is live still target shooting, a raffle, a cornhole tournament, and once again, great food. The shooting match is at the Chamber of Commerce park and occurs on the first Sunday in October.
