DC Independent Film Festival
Encyclopedia
As the oldest independent film festival in Washington, the DC Independent Film Festival has a storied history of presenting extraordinary films. DCIFF has served as a platform for launching great independent filmmakers since its premiere year in 1999, providing a forum for cutting edge features, shorts and documentaries on every subject from every country with every budget and subject imaginable. By exhibiting world premiere screenings, hosting timely seminars and workshops, and even sponsoring discussions with the United States Congress, DCIFF gives independent filmmakers opportunities for their voices to be heard in a way that no other festival can provide.

The website for the DC Independent Film Festival is found at www.dciff.org. It is maintained and developed by volunteers with a peak in activity in the period between October and early March, when the festival screens selected films.
Social networking is being adopted increasingly as a community-building tool and as a Press/Public Relations channel by the staff. The main twitter account is @DCIffFilmFest and an often-used hashmark is #DCIFF in the fall of 2011.
Under new leadership, 2011-2012 is planned as a year of refining online resources and building maintainability and scalability for the future. Of course the first focus is managing a very popular and successful festival between February 29 and March 4, 2012.
