era. Columbia College has one of the best fire academies in the state. The college also has a fire department on campus that is staffed by an on duty crew of at least two personnel daily.

The college was formed in 1968 by the College District Board of Trustees. Attendance in 2009 was around 2,338. Dr. Richard Jones is the current interim president, serving since August 2010.
