The Grand Opening was at 9:30 am on Thursday 16 December 2010 outside Churton Park School as police provided a road block so students could watch from the road.
The Grand Opening had some special guests including Peter Dunne (Ohairu MP), Katrina Shanks (National MP), More FM presenter, Churton Park Board of Trustees.
There was also a special performance by the Kapa Haka group and a special visit from Santa.
The audience consisted of teachers, parents, children, staff, special guests, etc.

- J (Junior) block has 4 classrooms (Rooms 1, 2, 3 and 4) where 2nd graders learn. (age 6-7)
- M (Middle) block has 6 classrooms (Rooms 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19) where 3rd and 4th graders learn.(age 8-9)

The Churton Park School Mural was organized by Rose Scheyvens, designed by a Mural Design Team consisting of 8 Students (Ages 10 - 11) and was painted by lots of students (Ages 9 - 11).The Mural was finished with painting about 1 1/2 weeks before opening.
