 and provides access to the coastal road. The first coeducational secondary school (Central College now Darwin)in Centre de Flacq was opened by a Ceylonese (Sri Lankan Tamils) who came to settle in the island in the mid-1940s (V C Chellappoo) after a career in the British army.
Flacq has one of the oldest open markets which is situated behind one of the oldest courthouses.

History

Flacq has been named because of its flat land .The Dutch had built the first sugar cane mill in this district precisely at manes in central flacq near the river"cere"
