Classes

Cedarbrook MS is a very important 2 years of school, for it can drastically determine which level of classes a student will take their freshman year at Cheltenham High School.

Science

Students in 7th grade study various forms of earth and life sciences, learning about genetics, plants and animals, and the environment. Students in 8th grade study various forms of physical science, which includes brief introductions to Physics and Chemistry. Many labs are done throughout a student's time at Cedarbrook to give a hands-on experience to what they are learning in class.

Mathematics

Math varies from student to student. The most advanced students have Algebra I in 7th grade, Geometry in 8th grade, and proceed onto Algebra II during their freshman year at Cheltenham HS. The advanced students have Algebra I split into two parts; one for 7th grade and one for 8th grade. These students begin with Geometry at Cheltenham HS. The average students have pre-algebra in 7th grade, and proceed onto Algebra I part I in 8th grade, and then do the entire Algebra I course during their freshman year at Cheltenham HS.

English

The English curriculum at Cedarbrook follows the outline set by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Students read various forms of literature, write on different essay topics, learn new vocabulary, and improve their grammar.

Social Studies

Social Studies is the same for all students: In 7th grade, students study geography. In 8th grade, students study civics, which includes introductions to basic economics, studying the Constitution of the United States, and to understand the rights of being a US Citizen.

Rotating Period

In 7th grade and 8th grade, Cedarbrook students have a rotating period, consisting of previews of some of the popular electives at Cheltenham High School, and also some helpful life-learning classes. The cycle rotates about every six weeks. The classes include: Art, Cooking & Sewing, Industrial Arts, Digital Media, Computer Education, Success (7th grade only), and Health (8th grade only).

Music

Studens have a choice when it comes to music: they can be in the band or choir. If they do not want to sing nor they play an instrument, students take General Music, which consists of learning about the evolvement and history of music, and also to explore how to make music.

Physical Education

Students learn how to play various sports in Phys. Ed., and also complete various physical fitness tests in May to see if they qualify for the National Physical Fitness Award, or the coveted Presidential Physical Fitness Award.

Athletics

Students have the choice of playing various sports for Cedarbrook. These sports can then be carried on at Cheltenham HS, where students can then compete for state championships. Cedarbrook plays the following schools in athletics: Sandy Run Middle School (Upper Dublin), Wissahickon Middle School, Abington Junior High School, Springfield Middle School, Kieth Valley Middle School (Hatboro-Horsham), Colonial Middle School (Plymouth-Whitemarsh), Upper Moreland Middle School, Lower Moreland Middle School, and Jenkintown Middle School.
