During the layoffs of employees at Microsoft in 2009, the ACES Studio team was removed and all projects were cancelled.

The layoff encouraged the ACES Studio team to continue their projects under the Cascade Game Foundry name. In a press release, the team expresses their immediate interest in consumer-based simulators:
