The team began play in the fall of 2004 as the Orange County Crush. In the middle of the season, they announced they were changing their name to the Orange County Buzz. They played their home games at the Fairgrounds Grandstand Arena

. They finished with a 10–10 record in 2005, but did not make the playoffs. The next season, they did make the playoffs despite a 9–21 record, but lost to the Los Angeles Aftershock

The assistant general manager for the team is Kevin A. Lau and the assistant coaches are Shawn Pravongviengkham, Marc Joffe and Wendell Robinson.
