. Walter & Sperry were both helicopter pilots and both trained at Carlson Gracie School ARREBENTACAO (meaning destruction in Portuguese). Walter was a black belt and Sperry only a brown belt at the time. Walter approached Sperry, and talked about opening up a school in Porto Alegre. Carlos Aveline was their first talent student as made from walter e sperry .

Carlos left Brazil in 1995 to open a BJJ school in Ocean Beach, San Diego, California as a Purple Belt.

 Tournament, the only tournament around in the early days. About two years later so he had to return and his Visa was running out. So the school was left to Odie Neto, his top student who was a brown belt at the time.

So upon his return to Brazil he opened his own MMA/ Weight gym school, where he started training for Vale Tudo.
He also competed in the Jiu Jitsu worlds a few times.
