History

The Carlisle station upgrade started in February 2003, and finished in January 2005. The renovations were part of the New MetroRail

The station is renowned as being the site of several suicides in the first decade of the 21st century. Within the space of a matter of months, a number of people jumped in front of express trains passing through the station, at times in excess of 100 km/h. One notorious accident was that of a wheelchair-using woman, who's wheelchair was caught in the tracks as she tried to cross.
