Candlewick is a fictional character who appears in Carlo Collodi
's book The Adventures of Pinocchio (Le avventure di Pinocchio).
, and spend their days indulging in play and idleness. After five months, both of them awake with donkey ears, which they conceal with tall caps. The two are reluctant to admit their condition to each other, but after some coaxing, they simultaneously remove their caps and laugh at each other. Their laughter soon turns to animal brayings and the two transform into a pair of donkeys. While Pinocchio is sold to a circus ringleader, Candlewick is sold to a farmer who makes him work at a water mill. In a later chapter, Pinocchio is sold to a drummer
who attempts to drown the donkey in order to skin his hide and use it to make his drum
. The man is then surprised that instead of finding a dead donkey, he sees Pinocchio who says the fish ate away at all his donkey skin.
Pinocchio and Candlewick meet again in chapter XXXVI, where it is revealed that Candlewick is dying from exhaustion. Pinocchio, now returned to normal, temporarily takes on Candlewick's job of doing farm work, and is laughed at when he reveals to Candlewick's owner that he went to school with the animal after he dies.

a 1972 Italian animated adaptation of Pinocchio. He is portrayed like the original story: a lazy boy who doesn't like school who convinces Pinocchio to come to the Land of Toys with him. They play a bunch of games and eat junk food, eventually he and Pinocchio turn into donkeys and are sold to a farmer and a circus. Near the end of the film Pinocchio finds Lampwick heavily wounded and exhausted from over working at the farm and he volunteers to do his work until he feels better, but it's too late and he dies from his wounds.

where he has a friend who always hangs out with him named Saleo played by Richard Claxton first he appears at the beging with Saleo and a few other bad boys who they hang out with running round the street causing trouble by running after a dog on a lead then they come up behind Geppetto's Wheel Barrow full of wood Lampwick then knocks the wood out after that they then run off to the bridge he next appears when he is playing his flute and skipping on the way to school Pinocchio spots him falls out the window and decides to follow Lampwick and the rest of the boys who are going to school then in class Lampwick and his friend Saleo involve Pinocchio in a violant prank first they ask Pinocchio if he ever get's termites Pinocchio not knowing what termites are asks what they are Saleo tells him that they are bugs Pinocchio tells them that he likes bugs Lampwick tells Pinocchio not this kind Saleo then tells Pinocchio they eat wood like him and then Saleo kicks Pinocchio and Pinocchio kicks Saleo back Lampwick then hits Pinocchio and he then punches Lampwick back and Lampwick then ends up on the floor after that Pinocchio gets in trouble with the head master first he lies then his nose starts to grow even longer then he ends up sneezing saw dust all over the head masters face Pinocchio then admits the truth that he did punch Lampwick and appologizes for doing it the head master then tells Pinocchio that it's to late for now and that he will not tolerate a lier in his class room so then Pinocchio is told to leave and is kicked out of school. Lampwick is then next seen again along with all the other boys from the town and the school as well in the theatre watching Pinocchio on stage where Lampwick can be both seen and heard cheering for Pinocchio on stage .Later then Lampwick Saleo and a load of other bad boys from the school are seen riding in a wagon pulled by donkeys Pinocchio is encouraged by Lampwick to come with them to the greatest place where there is no school no rules where they can all do what ever they want and that it is just for boys only when they get there Lampwick Saleo and the other boys who were in the wagon first start using stick like weapons destroying chalk frames with writing on them that says things that the boys either don't like or don't want to do such as 'Don't Lie' or 'Brush your teeth' or 'Go to bed on time' Pinocchio takes a look round and watches all the other things that the boys get to do Ripping Books Throwing Stones at Glass Windows Having Pillow Fights and Riding the Roller Coaster later then Lampwick Pinocchio and Saleo are seen putting bugs and insects inside little rockets that will blow up and explode after they light the fuse and Lampwick ends up lighting the rocket that Pepe the talking cricket [who is aiding Pinocchio on his way to become a real boy] is inside of after Lampwick is next seen playing with a gun shooting some more chalk frames that are there for the boys to destroy and then after Pinocchio tries to shoot with his gun and doesn't manage to shoot properly Lampwick offers to show him how Pinocchio says no and doesn't want him to Lampwick then apologizes and when he turns around another boy referred to as fighting boy [on the credits] played by Joe Swash grabs hold of his gun Lampwick then tells him that it's his gun but the fighting boy tells him that it's his own gun and calls him Lampshade instead of Lampwick then they get into a fight with each other over the gun while fighting they accidentally ended up shooting the gun infront of Pinocchio it then goes through Pinocchio's wooden chest and then shoots some more chalk frames and Pinocchio now has holes in his chest Saleo then comes up from behind Pinocchio looks through the holes and says he can see right through them then the one of Lorenzini's Foreman played by Jean-Claude Dreyfus appears and offers Pinocchio Lampwick Saleo and Fighting Boy tokens for the Roller Coaster Ride the 4 of them take the tokens and then go on it but before they go on it Pinocchio sticks his fingers in the holes in his chest and it makes a musical like noise [that sounds just like Lampwick playing his flute on the way to school] then the other 3 boys laugh then they go on the Rooler Coaster which goes down a long tunnel and comes out onto a track in the air that goes round a loop where there is a thountain that contains water that transforms people into animals based on their behavior. After they water shoots out at them and they drink it the Roller Coaster then goes back up through another tunnell and Saleo then notices that water Pinocchio drank is leaking out of the holes in his chest the roller coaster then starts to go even faster and then Saleo and the fighting boy who are both sitting next to each other in the back seats of the roller coaster behind Pinocchi and Lampwick loose their hats from the ride going more faster and faster Lampwick then starts to bray like a donkey then when Pinocchio asks him what's wrong Lampwick tells Pinocchio that he doesn't feel so good and Pinocchio tells him that he doesn't look so good either then the boys start to turn into donkeys with Lampwick first growing a tail which Saleo spots and asks him where did he get it Lampwick then picks up his tail and takes a look at it while Pinocchio turns round after he hears the other 2 boys behind him in the back screaming at and also looking at the donkeys ears they have grown and Lampwick then ends up braying for the second time then his head and his face [and ears also at same time] start to turn into that of donkeys then as the roller coaster starts going down more and more Saleo and the Fighting boy are both screaming while Pinocchio is holding his hands to his ears looking rather worried then Saleo and the Fighting boy's arms and hands start moving next thing they are turned in to the front legs and hooves of donkeys then Pinocchio is seen with donkey ears only that he has grown he then turns to the side and looks at Lampwick who he is sitting next to and Lampwick is now a full braying donkey on four legs and so are the other boys in the back of the roller coaster the roller coaster ride then ends and goes down through some doors where all the other donkeys can. They are later rounded up by Lorenzini who portrayed both the puppet master and the coachman. Pinocchio manages to escape getting his donkey ears ripped off in the process and he warns the remaining boys not to go on the roller coaster telling them it will turn them into donkeys. Unlike other versions Pinocchio sets the donkeys free and they escape not before the donkey Lampwick kicks Lorenzini into the sea turning him into a whale. Near the end of the movie the donkey Lampwick is seen pulling Geppetto, Pinocchio and Leona on a carriage. Lampwick, along with the other donkeys, returned to human form by doing good deeds and he can be seen playing with the human Pinocchio before the end credits. He calls Pinocchio "Woody" throughout the entire film.
Lampwick later appeared again in the 1999 Sequel The New Adventures of Pinoccio where he is played by British Actor Ben Ridgeway and him and Pinocchio get given a potion by Madame Flambeau who is secretly Lorenzinni [the sea monster,puppet master,and the leader of cursed place where Pinocchio Lampwick and all the other bad boys went to in the previous film and got turned into donkeys ]in the form of a woman after they drink it Pinocchio turns back into a puppet Geppetto get's turned into a puppet also and Lampwick instead of being turned into a donkey again is tured into a sea donkey fish and is in a barrel of water after Lorenzzin has caught him Pinocchio and Geppetto but then in the end they jump into magical enchanted water that turns people and creatures into their true nature and Lampwick along with Geppetto and Pinocchio is turned back into a human and Lorenzinni is turned back into his true nature the sea monster and Volpe and Felinet who in the previous film worked for Lorenzinni and got turned into a Fox and Cat in the end jump into the water to become humans again after they all turn into their true natures Lorenzinni is locked up and imprisoned and Lampwick and Pinocchio meet a girl who they invite to come and watch Geppetto performing on the theatre stage at the end of the film
Lampwick appears in the 2002 feature film of Pinocchio
, and in the English version, he is renamed Leonardo. His role in that film is more expanded than his role in the book is, as he first meets Pinocchio in prison after Pinocchio was cheated by the Fox and the Cat, teaching him what lollipop he licks, which is tangerine, and then they meet again after Pinocchio is kidnapped by a farmer in order to take the place of a dog that died. During that time, Leonardo attempts to steal chickens. Later on, he would have a role that's exactly like in the book. Instead of going to school, he wants to go to the land of toys, where bad boys turn into donkeys after they go their they are seen having a load of fun enjoying themselves by both playing and doing bad deeds as well after when they all go to sleep they all start to turn into donkeys and the next morning Pinocchio wakes up notices his donkey ears and hides them with a towel on his head then when he goes to find Leonardo he sees that Leonardo to has a towel on his head so then after they decided to both remove the towels off their heads they both see that they have grown donkey ears Leonardo then grows a tail and turns into a full donkey on 4 legs while Pinocchio after being turned into a full donkey on four legs is sold to a Circus Leonardo is sold to a Farmer later on after Pinocchio has turned back to normal and is no longer a donkey he finds Leonardo as the donkey of the farmer's who's farm he is working on dies from to much hard work and labour from being all tired and worn out Leonardo briefly talks to Pinocchio before he dies and Pinocchio shows and reminds him of the tangerine lollipop the flavour of paradise after he dies Pinocchio cries and puts the blanket over him
Lampwick appears in the 2008 Pinocchio miniseries, played by Thomas Sangster
. Since the miniseries is more faithful to the book, Lampwick has a much bigger role than in the Disney film,First he appears on the corner of the street where he spots Pinocchio and sees him looking at a glass cabinet filled with cakes and pastries where he laughs at Pinocchio and tells him that anyone would have though he had never seen a glass cabinet before Pinocchio tells Lampwick that he has and that he just wants one those pastries Lampwick then tells him to buy him a sweet pie too with extra cream he then tricks Pinocchio into stealing by telling him that to buy something simply means asking for and tells him that it is going to be fun then after Pinocchio is told to give the baker some money Pinocchio asks him why do you want 2 penny's when you have this lovely shop full of pastries Lampwick then snatches the bag full of doughnuts and buiscuit's that Pinocchio was going to buy Pinocchio then runs off with Lampwick after the Baker and several other people go running off to both stop and catch them after they away Pinocchio and Lampwick find a place to stop where Lampwick starts eating one of the doughnuts they stole he then tells Pinocchio after Pinocchio asks him does buying involve a lot of stealing running that they did not buy the sweets and cakes they stole them Lampwick then tells Pinocchio about the Land of Toys a place where he is heading to so he can get out town he tells Pinocchio that the Land of Toys is a place where you can have as many sweets and cakes as you like and that there is no one to tell you off and that there is no school no bedtime and that no one ever has to brush there teeth soon after Lampwick hears somebody say which way they have gone Lampwick heads off gives the bag of sweets and cakes to Pinocchio and tells him which way to go and that it's safe and that he will see him later Lampwick next appears in the scene where he is on the beach sitting underneath an upsidown boat ditching school where a teacher and a school student spot him and tell him that he should be in school he tells them to get lost and go play with the sharks after he comes out from underneath the upsidown boat he watches Pinocchio's father Geppetto making a boat and then sailing it out on to the see Lampwick with no interest at all and not caring about what's going on infront of him says what a waste of time later on after Pinocchio is all on his own with out his papa he meets Lampwick again where he is underneath a boat on the beach Lampwick tells Pinocchio that he has to get use to his papa not being round and that he is not coming back Lampwick also tells Pinocchio that he is going away to the Land of Toys which Lampwick describes as the Best Place in the World Pinocchio tells him he does not want to come Lampwick tells Pinocchio that the holiday their starts on the 1st day of January and end on the last day of December and that it's fun from morning till night then when the holidays end the fun starts all over again Pinocchio not wanting to go their goes off and says bye to Lampwick Pinocchio then bumps into Lampwick again for the third time later on when he comes a cross a carrage full of boys pulled by donkeys he then changes his mind and decides to join Lampwick and the others then when they get to the land of toys Pinocchio gets himself some a toy that he wants to play with he and Lampwick then go on the Merry Go Round after that they play a game of knock the block off the dodger then they join in with all the other boys having a pillow later on after having so much fun Pinocchio Lampwick and the rest of the bad naughty boys surcombe to sleep and to the curse of the land of toys the next morning they wake up with donkey ears and tails Pinocchio and Lampwick notice each others ears and tails then they see that all the other boys have them too and that their all being turned into jack ass donkeys Pinocchio and Lampwick then start running to escape and get out the evil cursed place while they run their human shadows are seen turning into donkey shadows then they come out and are seen as jack ass donkeys along with all the other boys then they get caught and are sent off to work Lampwick is sold to a farmer later on after Pinocchio turns back into a puppet and is working on the same farm that Lampwick got sold to the farmer tells Pinocchio that his donkey is on his last legs Pinocchio then sees that Lampwick is dying while he dies he talks to Lampwick before he dies from to much hard work and labour .

He is described as the most unruly of Pinocchio’s class, though he is the puppet’s best friend. Near the end of the movie the donkey Lampwick is seen pulling Geppetto, Pinocchio and Leona on a carriage. Lampwick, along with the other donkeys, returned to human form by doing good deeds and he can be seen playing with the human Pinocchio before the end credits. He calls Pinocchio "Woody" throughout the entire film.
Lampwick later appeared again in the 1999 Sequel The New Adventures of Pinoccio where he is played by British Actor Ben Ridgeway and him and Pinocchio get given a potion by Madame Flambeau who is secretly Lorenzinni [the sea monster,puppet master,and the leader of cursed place where Pinocchio Lampwick and all the other bad boys went to in the previous film and got turned into donkeys ]in the form of a woman after they drink it Pinocchio turns back into a puppet Geppetto get's turned into a puppet also and Lampwick instead of being turned into a donkey again is tured into a sea donkey fish and is in a barrel of water after Lorenzzin has caught him Pinocchio and Geppetto but then in the end they jump into magical enchanted water that turns people and creatures into their true nature and Lampwick along with Geppetto and Pinocchio is turned back into a human and Lorenzinni is turned back into his true nature the sea monster and Volpe and Felinet who in the previous film worked for Lorenzinni and got turned into a Fox and Cat in the end jump into the water to become humans again after they all turn into their true natures Lorenzinni is locked up and imprisoned and Lampwick and Pinocchio meet a girl who they invite to come and watch Geppetto performing on the theatre stage at the end of the film

His role in that film is more expanded than his role in the book is, as he first meets Pinocchio in prison after Pinocchio was cheated by the Fox and the Cat, teaching him what lollipop he licks, which is tangerine, and then they meet again after Pinocchio is kidnapped by a farmer in order to take the place of a dog that died. During that time, Leonardo attempts to steal chickens. Later on, he would have a role that's exactly like in the book. Instead of going to school, he wants to go to the land of toys, where bad boys turn into donkeys after they go their they are seen having a load of fun enjoying themselves by both playing and doing bad deeds as well after when they all go to sleep they all start to turn into donkeys and the next morning Pinocchio wakes up notices his donkey ears and hides them with a towel on his head then when he goes to find Leonardo he sees that Leonardo to has a towel on his head so then after they decided to both remove the towels off their heads they both see that they have grown donkey ears Leonardo then grows a tail and turns into a full donkey on 4 legs while Pinocchio after being turned into a full donkey on four legs is sold to a Circus Leonardo is sold to a Farmer later on after Pinocchio has turned back to normal and is no longer a donkey he finds Leonardo as the donkey of the farmer's who's farm he is working on dies from to much hard work and labour from being all tired and worn out Leonardo briefly talks to Pinocchio before he dies and Pinocchio shows and reminds him of the tangerine lollipop the flavour of paradise after he dies Pinocchio cries and puts the blanket over him

Since the miniseries is more faithful to the book, Lampwick has a much bigger role than in the Disney film,First he appears on the corner of the street where he spots Pinocchio and sees him looking at a glass cabinet filled with cakes and pastries where he laughs at Pinocchio and tells him that anyone would have though he had never seen a glass cabinet before Pinocchio tells Lampwick that he has and that he just wants one those pastries Lampwick then tells him to buy him a sweet pie too with extra cream he then tricks Pinocchio into stealing by telling him that to buy something simply means asking for and tells him that it is going to be fun then after Pinocchio is told to give the baker some money Pinocchio asks him why do you want 2 penny's when you have this lovely shop full of pastries Lampwick then snatches the bag full of doughnuts and buiscuit's that Pinocchio was going to buy Pinocchio then runs off with Lampwick after the Baker and several other people go running off to both stop and catch them after they away Pinocchio and Lampwick find a place to stop where Lampwick starts eating one of the doughnuts they stole he then tells Pinocchio after Pinocchio asks him does buying involve a lot of stealing running that they did not buy the sweets and cakes they stole them Lampwick then tells Pinocchio about the Land of Toys a place where he is heading to so he can get out town he tells Pinocchio that the Land of Toys is a place where you can have as many sweets and cakes as you like and that there is no one to tell you off and that there is no school no bedtime and that no one ever has to brush there teeth soon after Lampwick hears somebody say which way they have gone Lampwick heads off gives the bag of sweets and cakes to Pinocchio and tells him which way to go and that it's safe and that he will see him later Lampwick next appears in the scene where he is on the beach sitting underneath an upsidown boat ditching school where a teacher and a school student spot him and tell him that he should be in school he tells them to get lost and go play with the sharks after he comes out from underneath the upsidown boat he watches Pinocchio's father Geppetto making a boat and then sailing it out on to the see Lampwick with no interest at all and not caring about what's going on infront of him says what a waste of time later on after Pinocchio is all on his own with out his papa he meets Lampwick again where he is underneath a boat on the beach Lampwick tells Pinocchio that he has to get use to his papa not being round and that he is not coming back Lampwick also tells Pinocchio that he is going away to the Land of Toys which Lampwick describes as the Best Place in the World Pinocchio tells him he does not want to come Lampwick tells Pinocchio that the holiday their starts on the 1st day of January and end on the last day of December and that it's fun from morning till night then when the holidays end the fun starts all over again Pinocchio not wanting to go their goes off and says bye to Lampwick Pinocchio then bumps into Lampwick again for the third time later on when he comes a cross a carrage full of boys pulled by donkeys he then changes his mind and decides to join Lampwick and the others then when they get to the land of toys Pinocchio gets himself some a toy that he wants to play with he and Lampwick then go on the Merry Go Round after that they play a game of knock the block off the dodger then they join in with all the other boys having a pillow later on after having so much fun Pinocchio Lampwick and the rest of the bad naughty boys surcombe to sleep and to the curse of the land of toys the next morning they wake up with donkey ears and tails Pinocchio and Lampwick notice each others ears and tails then they see that all the other boys have them too and that their all being turned into jack ass donkeys Pinocchio and Lampwick then start running to escape and get out the evil cursed place while they run their human shadows are seen turning into donkey shadows then they come out and are seen as jack ass donkeys along with all the other boys then they get caught and are sent off to work Lampwick is sold to a farmer later on after Pinocchio turns back into a puppet and is working on the same farm that Lampwick got sold to the farmer tells Pinocchio that his donkey is on his last legs Pinocchio then sees that Lampwick is dying while he dies he talks to Lampwick before he dies from to much hard work and labour .
