The California Central Railroad was incorporated on April 21,1857. It, (the corporation), only completed one track, a five foot-gauge line between Folsom and Lincoln on October 31, 1861. A planned extension to Marysville was never completed.

On July 22 1868, the company was foreclosed and existing operations were purchased by the California and Oregon Railroad.
