The Centre supports interdisciplinary and inter-institutional collaborative scholarship through seminar series, public lectures, conferences and workshops. It is home to various research projects that bringing together academics and to international research visitors that pursue their own individual research. The Centre also hosts regular meetings of the British Society for the Philosophy of Science.

Its current director is professor Rom Harré.
