The Council of European Professional Informatics Societies (CEPIS) is a non-profit organisation seeking to improve and promote high standards among Informatics Professionals in recognition of the impact that Informatics has on employment, business and society. CEPIS comprises 36 Member Societies across 33 European countries, representing over 300,000 informatics professionals.

As a professional body, CEPIS is actively involved in promoting professionalism in IT practice amongst its members. This occurs through regular Europe-wide events and specific publications.

Education & Research forms the third field of focus for CEPIS. CEPIS is committed to supporting the development of education & research in Informatics.

CEPIS Goals

CEPIS Goals are:
  • To raise the profile and promote the views of European informatics societies and professionals, within the European Institutions
  • To promote the development of the Information Society through digital literacy, skills, education & research, and professionalism
  • To remain the principal network of European IT professionals
  • To lead the field of independent European ICT certification organisations

CEPIS Publications

Founded in October 2000, UPGRADE, is The European Journal for the Informatics Professional - a technical, independent, non-commercial, and freely distributed electronic publication.

UPGRADE appears bimonthly in English on www.upgrade-cepis.org (no printed edition is available). Its monographic section is also published in Spanish by Novática, our UPGRADE partner in Spain.

In UPGRADE international subject-matter experts cover current research and technical developments. This serves IT professionals in Europe and worldwide, in developing their technical expertise and broadening their professional knowledge. To sign up for this free publication please see UPGRADE.
