Each team plays each other throughout the season four times, twice at home and twice on the road for a total of 24 regular season games. At the conclusion of the regular season, which is generally the second weekend of every March, a tournament is held at Trinity Western University

The league comprises players with various hockey backgrounds. Comparatively, the BCIHL is of Junior B to Junior A calibre while the number of players with Major Junior experience is small.
