Brian Wooten (born 1954) Wooten is best known for his guitar work in the band Too Smooth that is considered by many to be the best rock band to come out of Austin. During it's heydey of 1973-1979 Too Smooth consistently sold out nearly all the venues it played and was the de facto house band at the Armadillo World Headquarters. Too Smooth was unique in that they performed original music exclusively during a time when nearly all bands covered popular and traditional rock songs. Of the four original members, Brian was the second founding member of Too Smooth to leave the band after three failed attempts at a major record label deal. He left in response to a spiritual calling that ultimately led him to playing in contemporary Christian rock bands, including the Christian rock band Whiteheart. Of late he has played lead guitar for country artist Trace Adkins and more recently has played with his old Too Smooth bandmates in very well received reunion shows in Austin. A pair of Too Smooth videos are currently available: one is a show from June, 1979 recorded in Dallas that was released in 2007 and the other is a very well produced documentary from the Texas Music Cafe of Too Smooth that was released in 2009. Both videos show Brian's absolute mastery of the electric guitar. More information about Brian can be found in Rick Koster's book "Texas Music".
