on May 27, 2011 with their debut single "Boyfriend", which was produced by Brave Brothers. Their fanbase was officially named "Best Friends" as of August 10, 2011.

, where they trained with the company for two years. By their 100th day mark of being child actors, the boys had already appeared in over 300 commercials. While in high school, Dong Hyun starred in Conduct Zero, a variety show where six rebellious high school students were made into exemplary students. He was also in a Japanese group for a commercial.

Min Woo was a child actor in many drama and movies, like Mother (2007), Eleventh Mom (2007), My Sweetheart My Darling (KBS1 2005), Ghost Pang Pang (SBS 2007), etc. He was the main character in Ghost Pang Pang along with the actress Han Bo Bae.

2011–present: Debut

 revealed a photo of the identical twin brothers, Jo Young Min and Jo Kwang Min. It was also revealed that the two had previously served as K. Will's back-up dancers in the variety program Quiz That Changes the World in January 2011.

Before their debut, Boyfriend was featured on M! Pick, which revealed the course of their debut. The group's first music video teaser, "Let's Get It Started", released on May 20, 2011. On May 27, 2011, Starship Entertainment released their debut single "Boyfriend", along with the full music video. Later that day, the group had their debut on KBS's Music Bank

. In mid-July, Boyfriend began using different choreography on music shows while performing "Boyfriend" in response to fans concerned that the group had limited its appeal. As a result, Boyfriend changed their choreography after rehearing for two days. After ending their promotions for "Boyfriend", the group followed-up with the song "You & I", which received a more positive responses from music critics.

On September 28, 2011, the music video teaser for Boyfriend's second single, "내 여자 손대지마 (Don't Touch My Girl)", was released. One day prior to its release, the single was leaked onto the Internet, which was quickly uploaded to online torrents and video-sharing website YouTube

. Starship Entertainment believed it was leaked by an affiliate. On October 6, Boyfriend's second single, "내 여자 손대지마 (Don't Touch My Girl)", was released. Thea accompanying music video featured a cameo by actress Lee Se-young. In contrast to their initial cute concept, "내 여자 손대지마 (Don't Touch My Girl)" showcased a more masculine, military-like concept.
Starship Entertainment has confirmed that Boyfriend's third single will be released on December 8th,2011

  • Jo Young Min (조영민), born 24 April 1995 (age 16), is the older twin, the vocalist, and visual of the group. He attends the School of Performing Arts Seoul. He is Kwang Min's twin (older twin).
  • Jo Kwang Min (조광민), born 24 April 1995 (age 16), is the younger twin and the main rapper of the group. He attends the School of Performing Arts Seoul. He is Young Min's twin.
  • No Min Woo (노민우), born 31 July 1995 (age 16), is the main dancer, lead rapper and maknae of the group. He attends the School of Performing Arts Seoul.
